New Year Resolutions

Well, we’re a couple of weeks into January and my resolution is holding up.

I normally adopt a similar approach at New Year to that of Lent. My usual reply to, “What are you giving up for Lent?” is “Abstinence” at which I have been very successful for the better part of a decade. Likewise, at this time of year, my standard resolution is that I will try not to make any resolutions at all; paradoxical I know but it works for me.

This year, however, I have gone native and actually made one and you are reading the result of it. I have resolved to have “Study Sunday”. This doesn’t mean I sit and learn something new, although I do intend to teach myself to write Java applets and install them on my phone in Android, but go to my study and do non-work stuff.

I realise that “go to my study” sounds very upper middle class but what it actually entails is going to the garage, from which I removed the door last year and replaced it with a wall and window. To call it a study gives it a gloss and glamour that it doesn’t really deserve but it fulfils the same purpose and so merits the title.

So what will I be doing other than writing nonsense on here and fiddling with my phone I hear you cry. Well, I have three novels that I am working on [yes writing them not reading!] and a Christina Rossetti poem to set to music ready for next Christmas. I also want to start a food section on here. On the technical side there is the software to do silly things, and indeed useful things, on the phone and I have a decimal clock that I have designed that needs soldering and building.

The proof of the pudding is always in the eating; will I still be writing on here on a weekly basis come next January? We’ll just have to wait and see if my resolution holds.

Hmmm, perhaps I shouldn’t have encouraged you to leave comments after all!!!

  2. …but you are Upper Middle Class!

    Well. Upper-ish.
