            So what if it does not divide exactly?

            Here we will see an easy way to do this.
            (For a more advanced way go to the Dividing Decimals page)

            We will do 53 ÷ 4 so set up the bus stop or snowplough:

           

            Four into 5 goes 1 with 1 left over:

           

            Four into thirteen goes three with 1 left over - what do we do with that?

           

            Remember that we are dividing by four,
            which we can think of as making pizzas out of quarters.

            53 quarters will make 13 whole pizzas and we have one more quarter left.

            So our answer is simply:
