The Singing Hedgehog Guide to:
Area - Rhombuses

        Finding the area of a rhombus depends on which information you have been given.
        You might have the diagonals in which case you treat it as a kite.
        Or you will have the base and perpendicular height in which case you deal
        with it as a parallelogram.

        For this rhombus we have the diagonals so we use the kite formula:

area = 8 x 4 ÷ 2 = 16 cm²

        This time we have the length and perpendicular height so we use the
        rhombus formula:

        area = 5 x 4 = 20 cm²
