Algebra - Equations 4

Here is another example:
Solve the equation 6y - 2 = 2y + 1

What do we want it to say? We want it to say "y equals the answer"
What's in the wrong place? The minus 2; we MUST include the sign
How do we get rid of it? We add 2 to both sides

6y - 2 = 2y + 1 becomes:
     6y = 2y + 3

Now what's in the wrong place? The 2y
How do we get rid of it? We take away 2y from both sides

     6y = 2y + 3 becomes:
     4y = 3

Now what's in the wrong place? The 4
How do we get rid of it? Remember it means 4 times y so we must divide by 4

     4y = 3 becomes:
       y = 3/4      always write these as a fraction
                                 remember "fractions is division . . . "
