Here is an example with 27 x 14:

Russian Multiplication

This is also known as
Egyptian or Peasant Multiplication and is very easy to use.

- first, write the two numbers next to each other.

- next, double the first and halve the second, ignoring any fractions.

- keep doing that until the right hand column becomes 1.

- then, cross out any row with an even number in the right hand column.

- finally, add up the left hand column and that's the answer!

Here is an example with 27 x 14:

27 14 even on the right, so cross them out
