Russian Multiplication
This is also known as Egyptian or Peasant Multiplication and is very easy to use.
first, write the two numbers next to each other.
next,
double
the first and
halve
the second, ignoring any fractions.
keep doing that until the right hand column becomes 1.
then, cross out any row with an
even
number in the right hand column.
finally, add up the left hand column and that's the answer!
Here is an example with 27 x 14:
